My boy has just seen the Chiropractor about his back. He has very little muscle to support him at the moment which is basically making him ache, as we would if we suddenly hit the gym after months of doing nothing.

She suggested he needs to work long and low to build up his back muscles on the lunge and bring himself up underneath. She suggested lots of walk/trot and the use of poles and raised poles to get him working through his back.

Any other exercises for back build-up? And would you suggest side-reins or loose?

Basically, anything you can think of to build up his back muscles nice and evenly.

Thank you!

No side reins as needs to be stretching down as much as possible. Poles are great as they make the horse look at the poles so lower their head.

Possibly some in hand work around poles. Like trec. So walking around L bends, S bends, backing over poles, crossing sideways over poles.
