Long boot / Short boot & gaiters dilema!!!

Indulge me please.........
I have some lovely Petrie and Sergio Grasso long boots, the Petrie ones fit but are like riding in little boot shaped cement chambers, the grasso are too narrow but I'm about to start my 'holiday diet' so they may fit by xmas. But I always ride in short boots and gaitors (mountain horse scs ones with the acellsior gaitors) these are pretty wrecked because I ride in most days and are a bit chunky for competition. Anyway do I starve myself into the Grassos or stick them on ebay and use the profits to get some ariat boots with crowne pro gaitors and keep for absolute best. Would I get away with smart short boots and gaitors for local showing? Do you need long boots for affiliated dressage (novice) and county showing? Advice please this could be life changing

i county showed in boots and gaiters - but mine are really smart and my gaiters were made for me. As long as they look smart it dosent matter. I also compete affliated BD and ride in my gaiters and boots. (medium level)
