Long haired puppies/dogs

If a dog as an adult is to be long haired, at what age would it start growing a long coat?

We don't know for certain that my puppies father is the dog that we think it is and she has started to get longer hair under her belly, armpits and other random areas. I am hoping and praying that she will be short-haired but I have this awful feeling that her hair may just keep growing and growing... best get the clippers out

Mine has a short coat up until about 6months, then it gradually got longer, and now at 1 year old he's a complete fluff ball

Just had a look at the pics - she looks purebred to me, she has all the colour points etc, but I'll leave it to someone who knows more about rotts to give a definitive answer - can't tell you much about why her hair would be growing like that!


Either way, I am sure she will be a much loved pet.

Everyone I have spoken to agrees that she looks pure and I honestly do think she is pure

. But I do know that you can get pure long haired rotties....

As you say though, either way I will still love her as much as I do now and obviously the length of her coat will never change that. I just think long haired rotties look very very strange

! Plus think of all that extra grooming

I didn't know you could get them!

Used to have a fabby LH GSD female, but we had to sell her as she was bought specifically to show and that ain't allowed - ironically the long hairs are nearly always conformationally and temperamentally perfect.....

If you google 'long haired rottweilers' you will see why I said they look strange

Thats a shame about your GSD becuase as you said they often are the 'nicer' dogs. We used to have a LH GSD and he really was the best health and softness-wise (yes thats a word

) that my parents had - they had a few short haired ones before him.

I saw my very first long haired rottie yesterday at work!! I was very impressed it looked sooo cuddly
