Hi there!
grin.gif
I'm new to this whole forum thing but I thought I'd give it a go because I am struggling very much to find something in the showjumping world which so many people seem to possess!!

I have only recently bought a pair of Brogini boots. They fit nicely however the leather around the leg and ankles will NOT give!! I have worn them about the yard and at home and ridden in them but they are still the most solid things ever! I have seen lots of riders who wear very flattering long leather boots, but the leather seems veeery soft... does anyone have any recommendations?!

It seems very hard to compete in comfort these days! I am willing to save the pennies if needed so fire away!

Thanks guys!

It sounds like hard-wearing leather so they should last longer. The soft leather boots wear out much quicker even if you get instant comfort. In the old days we used to wear new boots for about 6 weeks at home before even thinking of competing in them because they were so distractingly uncomfortable, (betraying myself as a real oldie here!)

Also, I may be misunderstanding something, but if your boots give too much at the ankle the leather will wrinkle, the boots will "drop", and become too short for you?? What I'm really saying is: don't do anything hasty, persevere.

You could try rubbing some Dubbin into them, it may help to soften them, but will also waterproof the leather.

Some boots are meant to be stiffer than others, but I think the heat of your skin will make them give in the end. You don't want them to be too soft or they will slide down your leg and wrinkle at your ankle. Remember, they are meant for riding in, so just ride in them every day.

I had a nice pair of regent show boots which were like that and they actually hurt to walk in and I couldnt get that bend in my ankle for a light sear of fences so I bought a pair or Ariat long boots and I must say they are the best thing I have ever bought. They have a nice Linging so comfy on the leg, a good sole grip for jumping and they flex very well the first time I wore them instant comfort. And the best nit is the Purple tartan on the inside which mum says dont matter but I love it. They are vert smart to,Link below. Actually now am annoyed I got them £30 cheaper in a sale now they're even cheaper!!!!! lol

Ariat Bromonts are great (tho have suede on inner leg), also have a look at the new, top-of-the-range boot from Mountain Horse - I *THINK* it's called the Richmond? It has their new stirrup tread - the green one, which is finer than their previous SCS.

For a really good budget boot, try the Dublin Aristocrat - I had a friend test these for me and she raved about them. Cheaper than the rest and a good performer!

Sergio Grasso are made from lovely soft leather and mine have padded ankles, they never rubbed, except for the pair that were too long.

Very strange tip but apparently it works, and definitely worth a try before shelling out on new boots - put potato peelings inside the boots for a couple of days and apparantly it really softens the leather. I've never tried it but my Grandma swears by it!
