Hi,

My horse has just been fitted with bar shoes due to some foot problems. The farrier has threatened me with death if he loses them so horsie will be living in overreach boots for the foreseeable future!

However..... the boots I have just aren't long enough and finish a good 2-3 cms from the ground (even though they are full size) so they aren't going to stop him catching and pulling the shoes off.

Can anyone recommend some long overreach boots please?

What else can I do to help prevent him pulling shoes off?

A livery on the yard has a horse with very very long shoes on. And he pulled shoe after shoe off a few months ago. The only solution she has come up with is Eskadron Sheepskin Over Reach boots (as the XL are really long) and Gaffer (sp?) tape over the back if the shoe/heel. He hasn't pulled one off since

My horse has egg bars and farrier has said same thing hehe.
I use shires xl overreach boots and have found that the hy ones in large are same size as the shires xl and bout 5 pound cheaper x

Ha, Ha! Mine has a trailer shoe on his hind feet due to a suspensory problem and he pulls it off, inclusive the overreach boots. To make matters worse, search as I might I can never find it in the field either.

Another vote for the shires XL, and another make do them too but I'm not sure which one. Very cheap aswell so not a big deal if they get lost! They are long and go right down to the floor on my 17hh, and he's managed not to lose a heart bar yet *touch wood*!!

Mine is a nightmare for pulling shoes off - he doesn't wear bar shoes but he does need the shoe back a bit to support low heels.

First 2 weeks after shoeing. Boa hoof boots over his shoes.
Then double overreach boots. Fitted Neoprene ones underneath, rubber ones (shires xl) over the top.
He's a tb and has small feet which helps. A friend's who had bigger feet mananged to pull off a egg bar with the rubber ones on but the XL are like normal on him.

I just use XL rubber OR boots (mine has lateral extensions so needs OR boots for TO). I have the same problem though so I just don't do them up tightly. It means there is a gap between each side but they have two lots of velcro so are ok, but having them not done up tightly makes them sit lower. In my head that makes sense but not sure if it does to anyone else!!

Just realised it may have sounded like i put the overreaches over the boa boots.
I use hoof boots for the first 2 weeks which for mine is the real danger time for pulling shoes.
Then for the next few weeks go to double overreach boots so his feet get to air.
