I have just started long reining my companion pony as only 14 yrs old and too young to retire and I need to keep the weight off of her. She is going well at walk and tracking up. Have done some trot lungeing with two reins which is not so good, she tends to run and has no rhythm. I think she needs suppling. Any ideas as to how to progress with her. She is a Dartmoor and not done anything really for at least three years. I do lead her out, off my boy several times a week.

Have you tried puting some poles around the arena, at first just a few randomly and then in set groups?

Alternatively put cones - or whatever - out and get her to weave in and out.

I find anything that helps to distract them for a bit tends to help them not run so much and then you can work from there.

Good luck
