Long Reining - idiots guide

Can anbody give me some basic information on how I should start long reining my horse, I lunge her a lot but have never long reined before, any advice or tips would be most helpful.

I find the easiest transistion is to lunge with two reins. slowly get them used to you lungeing like that, and slowly move your position so you're more behind them. You'll need a saddle, or even better a lungeing roller. Once they're used to having someone behind them and the reins round their back end thread both reins through the side loops on the roller. Get someone to walk at their head, and walk behind gently holding the reins. Ask them to walk fowards. It's alot different for a youngster than something already being ridden. But both ideally should be happy going off the voice in lungeing.
 
The best way to start then is by lunging with two reins, so that they get used to the ffeeling of a rein behind them. Once settled with that have someone help you and walk by their head when you walk behind them.
