Long reining .....

What age for those of you that have youngsters ...What age have or did you start long reining ?

Long reined Missy this evening in the arena and she went fantastic , was halting when asked and she actually backed up also but then again she does back up when I use voice commands in the stable . She will be 2 in march by the way .

By the time I was finished , spent about 15 mins saying it was the first time and she had a lovely frothy mouth at the end of it .

I'd say two was fine. Just keep easy on her, don't lunge her on circles and aim towards free schooling her more often than using reins and a bit.

Yeah , she gets plenty of loose schooling , however we more or less just let her walk around the outside of the arena and then long reined her up the lane into her stable , she did really well .

aww that's fab. Sounds like she has an old head on young shoulders and will take all that life throws at her
