Long Riding Socks

Does anyone have any recommendations for decent riding socks? I don't like the compressions ones (like the Le Mieux ones as you can't get them over your jods) but all mine end up going stiff as a board like cardboard! They are many years old now so looking for some new decent ones!
 
I love Soxtrot. Unfortunately the UK distributor is unwell after an accident but you can buy on Amazon. They are hard-wearing and wash brilliantly.
As they are thin I wear another thin ankle pair on top for layering warmth.
 
My Favorites are Mark Todd. They are a perfect length, stay up, have a cushioned sole and last me more than 5 minutes. They are hard to find though it seems.
 
For warmth I've just switched to knee length isobaa ones which are great but I'm not sure how long they'll last.
When my Lemieux ones went cardboard ish I put them in the tumble dryer and that softens them up. I did this as it was either that or stop wearing them and they seem to be surviving Ok a few months on.
 
May I ask about the benefits of long socks? Is it just a warmth thing or are they better under boots? It's never really occurred to me to buy socks specifically for riding. Should I give them a try?
 
Bridgedales, Smart Wool socks (both have long or short versions) or other hiking socks. At the moment I love Nordic socks, they aren't knee length but they are cheerfully coloured and very warm.
 
My long socks are woof wear for wearing under long boots. But since I got old and returned to short boots I wear normal M&S men's wool socks over a thermal liner which OH got when he went to Antarctica.
 
I've got a few pairs of Woof Wear ones that seem to last well and keep their stretch compared to other brands I have. It's usually the heels that wear out for me! Also, randomly, I discovered the boring grey ones last longer than the snazzy pink or green ones 😁
