are there any?
horsey is on 2 danilon a day - if he is retired he will need one a day to stay field sound, just a bit worried for him long term.

What is wrong with him? As said in your previous post, being on painkillers long term can cause liver problems (as it can in humans). That is what happened to mine so we took him off painkillers and he was also treated by a physio (bone spavin had caused stiffness elsewhere due to his movement). he was actually better off the but and after having had physio sessions than he had been for many years.

Think the damage had already been done in respect of his liver though sadly.

I would maybe try look at alternatives if possible. Bute is great short term but I don't like the use of over a long period.

have spoken to vet but she thinks he needs bute to stay sound, he has significant arthritis in his hocks and fetlocks, he loves to be ridden, gets bored if hes not you see, vet said he is better than shes ever seen him on the bute so i dont really want to change it.

Danilon is far kinder on the system - and if the horse needs support to be comfortable to be field sound - then that would be my drug of choice.

Switch to Danilon,as AmyMay says, kinder to the system, but with same effect as bute.

Have had my mare on Danilon. (Arthritis in hock as a result of a stress fracture) She is still going strong and being hacked out for up to 3 hours at a time.

danalion is kinder to the system than bute but a horse has to be on it a long time for any side effects. Have you tried all other things like devils claw cofery root subti bute bute x all these kind of things for there pain relieve?!
