when I lived in essex it was always my last choice of venue to go to - parking is manic (but on hard standing), warm up arena is (normally) busy and the surface is not that even, gallery is very noisy so not great for spooky horses, smells of chips so bad for those of us who get nervous tummy (!), entries are rarely limited.....I could go on!*
*please note, I have not competed at Longwood since 2006 so it could be different now.
Longwood isn't in a very nice area, I wouldn't want to leave my car/trailer unattended, the surfaces aren't very good and I've been told they don't limit entries.
It isn't somewhere I'd advise people to go to!
we went for their indoor hunter trial and loved it !! and we arent chavs far from it!!
Maybe its different for SJ. we had a lovely day, the organisers were really friendly and allowed us time to warm up even though we arrived really late for our class, it was quite quiet though. everyone was friendly etc and crowd were really lively.
it was actually refreshing to go somewhere were everyone isnt stuck up their own arses and people actually cheered and supported all the competitors!
But maybe that is a difference between the jumping lot and indoor hunter trial sort?!! We didnt see any chavs either, not one. but the food area stank LOL oh and the bogs were a bit minging
I'm not a fan.....the lorry parking tends to get really busy (normally with cars), the warm up is very deep and the indoor is noisy and quite dusty isn't it?
I've not known there to be a good atmosphere there - but then considering its location, I'm not surprised - and definitely wouldn't leave the lorry unlocked or headcollar hanging outside lol!!
Some people who prefer it to NH though?!
I've been there on jumping, dressage and showing days......as competitor and spectator.
Hope this doesn't count as a defamatory post?! It's just my experience of it!
Sounds like it's quite spooky etc and my mare can be super spooky so probs best to give it a miss! Will do some practising at home instead for next time
I went recently for the first time. It wasn't *that* bad but I won't be going back. Its all good experience and the course itself was ok, although jumps a bit shoddy and unimaginitive. My main problem with it though was the warm up surface and some of the other competitors there.
