I love that foal! You are so lucky to have that ''Mistake''!
She's a welsh cob isn't she? I think she's looking good considering having a foal at foot

Yep shes a full bred Sec D (which is why im watching her weight) as i know natives enjoy thin air and shes getting alot more than that at the moment!

I wouldn't worry too much about your mare's weight just yet. She needs plenty of goodness herself to feed her little one for the next 6 months. She's looking in good shape at the moment, just mind she doesn't drop off!

They are both so lovely. Lucky you

p.s what have you named the foal?

Im paranoid about lammi which is why im all 'weight watching' i think its because i now have a good-doer and im not used to them.

Currently foal is called 'baby' lol, still not completely decided but she is SUCH a character- she whinnys to me and canters around if i run around the field after me. lol- shes crackers like her mum!

I think she loos fine, she needs a bit of extra on her I would think in order to make sure the foal is getting enough. I wouldn't worry about her too much really, she doesn't look partiocularly overweight to me having just had the foal and I would assume the weight will drop off a bit feeding foaly anyway (not that I am a breeding expert by any means!)

I've missed a post or two. When was baby born? Are you gonna keep her since she's coloured? What a fab 2 for 1! I'm jealous!!

Weight looks fine. I'd be paranoid about it too.

It is very very unlikely that the mare will get lami whilst feeding baby if you feed her sensibly. She wasn't overweight before because you didn't know she was in foal.

She will need a good diet atm as it takes masses of her energy to produce milk for baby.

If she gets a bit porky then drop her feed slightly but give her a good balancer to make sure she gets all the vits and mins for baby.

Looks like a section D and quite honestly I wouldn't be too concerned about her weight while she's feeding her beautiful coloured foal. Having said that you don't want her piling it on and risking lammi so, I'd carry on doing what you are doing, she looks good!

What breed is foalie's daddy? - think she needs to come and live with me when she's weaned

She looks a healthy weight and I always think dapples in a horses summer coat are a sign they are very 'well'. Personally wouldn't feed her anything other than grass and a good balancer to cover the vits/mins, nothing else.

Aw i love seeing your foal pics they make me all smiley

I thought she would drop a lot of weight when the foal dropped since you were trying to get her weight down before you knew she was in foal, but she's kept it really nicely. They both look the picture of health. Your baby sounds lovely too what a good relationship to have with her already, i'm jealous (think i say that every post hehe)
