We bought him a dummy today, which he seemed interested in at the Game Fair, so we think he might like it, but to be sure we bought a rabbit skin

I have sewn it onto a sock, so I didn't puncture the canvas so it will still float, and I can take the sock off and it's just a plain old dummy

I'm amazed at my seamstress skills!

He is very interested in it now, so we will see what happens when we take him out with it!

Isn't he holding it like an old pro!? Clever Pup

I had just finished stitching it all together and wanted to see what he would make of it, so woke him up specially

He wasn't too bothered when he saw what I had for him though!

He has spent all morning climbing up to where ever we have hidden it and stealing it, so I think it's a hit!!

If you have any tips on how to get Henry to retrieve that would be great - at the moment he finds whatever I chuck into the undergrowth, carries it out then drops it and wanders off

Maybe it is because the only ball on a rope I could get was pink

Perhaps if I got him a manly dead-bunny dummy that would be less demeaning for him (although harder for me to find as well!)

When he has it in his chops, run away from him or squat right down and make ridiculous noises with your arms out wide - basically the same as training recall. My Dad's dog was a bit like that, he had to sit down and get the dog to jump into is lap with whatever he was retrieving in his gob
grin.gif
It worked though!

Lots of fuss when he comes to you with it, then hold it but let him keep hold of it for a second (not pulling back though!) lots more fuss, then give whatever command you use for release and even more fuss.

Otto doesn't retrieve outside yet, but he thinks bringing toys to you in the house is the most exciting thing ever, goes all bendy and waggy
grin.gif
Sometimes I give it straight back to him so he doesn't get disheartened by it always being chucked away again!

I am saying this like I know anything, but truth be told I haven't a clue!
grin.gif
Otto just seems to know naturally how to hold things and then present them perfectly to hand! Strange little creature he is! We just have to work on it outside now
grin.gif

But it is definately because Hen doesn't want to be seen by all his tough mates with a pink ball in his chops
