Ok - being 'Devil's advocate' here.

He is lovely and has been there, done it etc....

But why do I always distrust the phrase: "For sale as I'm getting out of horses"?

The fact that we all log in here day in, day out is usually because we can't get out of horses! And I rarely trust anyone who says they can if I'm going to buy, unless they have a VERY good reason....

Especially when the seller speaks in phrases like' "manners to burn". Dealer talk, IMHO.

Kate I gave up horses for a few years, just didn't feel up to them anymore! Although obviously I am back with a vengeance just saying it does happen!

Fair enough, Sanolly, it does happen and so did I - for 3 years (wanted to grow nails, wear make-up and stay out all night - didn't last lol!) - just don't trust this ad!
The way it describes the horse doesn't sound to me like someone giving up.

I hope I'm proved wrong and if so I hope the OP lets me know! I'm always up for being told so :)

I must agree, he's a bit too expensive and he's a little bit old, and I find 'giving up horses' very odd, but he is STUNNING!

My friend is looking for a schoolmaster around the 8ish mark for around 2k.

She has re-back her current TB who she bought to compete, but unfortunately she is lame with navicular. She put A LOT of work into her as she was a nightmare, and when she started to compete her she became lame, and it took her a long time, so she wants to pick up from where she left off... So if you have a horse! 15-16hh ish height.

I'm not going to get involved in the is he worth it £'s discussion as I will obviously be seen to be biased, however the lad in question in my future sil's horse and I will 100% confirm that she is neither a dealer nor a liar about giving up horses for genuine reasons. EDA (You can pm me if you'd like more details) In fact I'm certain that parting with Vic is going to be one of the hardest thing's she has ever done. He is also everything she say's he is a genuinely brilliant chap.

In which case, as I said I was open to being proved wrong, I hope all works out and your sister in law finds him a lovely home.

Therefore, some lucky person will get a good horse, so good luck to Vic!

He has a lovely, honest face and a very kind eye. My horse could fit his description almost to a 'T', although he is a few years younger and what I paid for him was not far off what this fella is on for. Certainly in my lad's case, I was happy to pay the money - having a horse with such a wonderful outlook and talent as mine is worth every penny.

I really hope the seller finds a 5* home for this lad - sounds like he deserves one :)

Does seem a lot of money for his age! Especially as although they say he has competed in lots of different disciplines, it doesn't actually say he has done well in them! He could have got 45% in the dressage and eliminated in the jumping events! If he does have some good results under his belt then they would be best to mention them in the ad if they want best chance of achieving that price.

I also think they would be better putting a price on the horse only, and adding that full wardrobe is available for separate negotiation. Not everyone is going to want the whole wardrobe.

Nope does absolutely nothing for me. Couldn't spend that much on something that old..no matter what, I like value for money and hoping to get a few more years isn't enough value for me. ;)

I never suggested she was a dealer or a liar, just thought that 'giving up horses' was a little peculiar, that's all.
He is however, an absolutely stunning horse, and I was actually considering emailing her and asking if he was available for loan (not for me - but for a friend).
He really is beautiful!

Speaking about value, if you bought him as he stands it could easily cost £1500 for tack rugs etc. So in fact you are probably spending £3000 for a safe schoolmaster. Not bad in my opinion. I do think that she should advertise him for approx £3500, with tack available at extra. would probably get more interest.

That is a fair point Sprite! I had similar thoughts myself and will try and suggest this to my SiL tonight or at the weekend. x

He is honestly lovely looking- such a generous face :)

I really hope you find him a loving home- FWIW, if he's been a sound, well-kept horse who would pass a vetting and the vet though he would stand up to the work I'd want him to do (low level RC) then I would pay that if I had that sort of money.

He looks sweet and genuine but I honestly can't see what the fuss is about? He seems a bit plain to me, and a little bit old for that price.

I was expecting some sort of unusual colour or exotic breed!

Hope he finds a good home, looks like he has given his owner a lot.

I don't understand it either. Giving up riding, maybe, but not horses. If I had such a perfect horse as that I would still keep him as a pet or have someone else come and ride him and help with the cost. I wouldn't sell him at his age.

Which underlines the fact that it is better to know someones circumstances rather than to judge. I hope that anyone intersted in giving Victor a new home will call to find out her genuine reasons for parting with him. She did in fact advertised at great length last year for a sharer and after several that turned out to be unsuitable/unreliable she did have one for a while who was a dressage instructor from Australia but she unfortunatley had to return home.

What a lovely face. I love the picture of him in the water - he looks like a very happy hippo :D

He is a bit pricey, but when he comes with all that tack I would definitely consider paying that much if I liked the horse - normally when I buy a new horse I spend an awful lot on buying tack, rugs and other stuff the horse needs. And to get 2 saddles and bridles - a luxury!
