I have been asked to help look after two horses as their owner has technically abandoned them (some of you may know as I have posted about this before.) She has not come to see them for 3 months and is uncontactable. The land owners are not horsey at all and have asked me to help look after the horses and point them in the right direction. I have spoken to them about ringing the BHS or equine lawyer up to see where they stand legaly regarding the abonded horses. As they do not want to get rid of them as their children like them and they are afraid they will be abandoned again.

Since the horse owner is not paying them and the land owners are paying for new fencing, feed, farrier, and livery fees for both horses she is in a lot of dept to them. And the land owners are starting to think that she is wanting them to turn around and claim ownership over the horses as she is really not bothered about them and nebver has been.

It is no promblem helping the land owners out with the horses but I am just afraid that i am technially allowed to look after them?
I took some pictures of the larger horse who I wanted on loan (but cannot get in contact with the owner to ask) and found that two of his teeth are in horrible conditon they were all black and yellow, looked like a rock you find at the sea side! and was wondering what you guys thought of them. I will tell the yard owners that i woud recommend they get the horses looked at by a vet, wormed and have their teeth done as the owner woudln't have done it.

Open to opinions on anything, thanks.

You forgot the piccies!

Were you able to resize them so they were viewable?

Edited: just saw you have posted links.

.

Why doesn't the farmer have the address of the owner? I wondered if you could have them legally IF you contacted the ILPH who would take possession and then pass on adopted "ownership" to you? Maybe it isn't doable but others may come up with a better solution.

Tia, I resized them all to 320 x240 but were still posted massive so was safer to provide links

He is a nice horse to ride but was very worried about the teeth I took pictures of, sorry they were unclear.
I am unsure why they do not have the adress of the owner so I cannot answer that. I will certainly ask them to contact the ILPH but as I said they don't want them taken off their land because they enjoy them so much.
Seems like a good idea though I will certainly let them know thanks Tia!
