Well I took my two to the vets last night for their annual vaccinations, and whilst I was there I asked him whether he knew of any working JRT pups (as I want a docked one). He gave me a telephone number, I rang up, and they still have a bitch for sale.... so I am going to look tonight!

She is 9 1/2 weeks old and sounds great, but the only thing is she is tan in colour, and I rather fancied a traditional white-and-tricolour one. So I am NOT going to take any money with me tonight to try and restrain myself if she is not what I am looking for

Its a bit sooner than I was originally planning but hey, docked ones won't come along all the time

Oo very exciting!

Do you mean she's all tan or tan & white? The all tans are becoming increasingly popular, as are solid blacks and black & tans.

It's hard to resist!

Well I will do, but I am rubbish at getting photos onto the PC - but I have just had an idea, can e-mail them to a HHO friend to do for me!

If I do buy her it will be a mad dash to Oxfordshire this weekend to borrow a little cage from my mum - my cage is greyhound sized

The very nice sounding lady described her as tan, with a white blaze down her face, white tips to her paws, and black hairs on the end of her tail like it has been dipped in paint - just like my lurcher

I do like the sound of the way she has been brought up - docked, dew clawed, wormed up to date, micro-chipped, had her first vaccination - but the most important thing for me is whether she is all sweet and wiggly and loving like the JRT puppies I have know before

That's how I ended up with Millie, she's all fawn and not really what I was expecting but that wiggly bottom did it for me!

Plus the gorgeous little hairy face.

She'd be ok in a large cage - unless your GH is still in it!

Well I have a cunning plan you see - not that I have told my boss yet! I am going to take large cage to work and put it in my office, with newspaper at one end and bedding at the other. The idea is that the pup can come to work with me and stay in that until she is older and able to be left for longer periods of time when I am at work. I also have a park just over the road in Malvern where I can walk her at lunchtime

So the small cage is for home/travelling/staying overnight at the BFs house

Not sure whether to ask the boss, or just bring the cage in - well, he hardly ever comes to my office anyway

Malvern is a really nice place to work - the only problem is I work for the Council

Pup was really sweet looking, but I just didn't click with its temperament

- it was one of those that, when you picked it up, it looked at you with an 'oh, I don't know you do I' sort of expression. No affection or anything at all, and when it was playing with its brothers on the floor it wouldn't come dashing up to humans for some fuss.

Of course I realise that pups will be different when you get them home, but there was some voice in the back of my head saying 'no, this isn't the one' so I rang the lady today and let her know

I'm not in any hurry I guess, I already have my lurcher and greyhound

, but I just didn't expect not to like the pup

Oh, and it wasn't all wiggly and sweet either

I rang round loads of our local vets today asking them if they had docked any JRTs recently but no joy at the moment, will look on noticeboards etc this weekend

that was my excat feeling when i was looking for JRT pups and it took long time to find the perfect one. I wanted a rough coat but ended up with Boris.

Boris (smooth coat JRT docked from working home) was excatly the opposite, he was so wriggly, always come to people, so full of confidence. Made the right decision then.

I actually met the lady who almost bought Stella. The first time she went to look at her, Stella was very curious and friendly, but blanked her the next time; the lady ended up with Stella's sister instead. Conversely, Stella was all over me with kisses, and then fell asleep on my lap. I do believe that they choose you, as much as we choose them.

Good luck finding the right pup!

Not prejudiced at all, just interested. Why do you want a docked one? Assume you wanting to work it?

When we bought ours (undocked) all I could find were docked ones in our area (big hunting country LOTS of working terriers). I wasn't especially bothered but the one I ended up with was the wiggliest, most affectionate.

Our hunt terrier man said he didn't bother docking his litters anymore. Didn't seem to have a reason why not apart from cost.

Sorry about the delay, not been on here for a while - no, I'm not going to work the terrier, I just am too old-fashioned!

Having been brought up with docked dogs I think they can look just awful with tails on - now being prepared to be shot down - but it is pure aesthetics (sp?) for me. I know that opinion will be really unpopular but it is how I feel.
