Looking for 1st horse!

Hopefully off to Clip Clop Traders next week (if weather allows and horse not sold over weekend!!) Does anyone know of any other dealers they would recommend, doesn't neccesarily have to be in this area or happy to buy privately. Needs to be 15.2hh plus, it's for a 5 star experienced home! Any one been to Ride Irish? Thanks!

My advice is for you to stay away from dealers - and always get a vetting.

There are some good dealers around but if I were you I would take someone with me and always get a vetting.

I bought both my horses from dealers and never had any regrets with either of them. In fact I found it the best way to find a horse as you can try several in one visit thus getting a direct comparison.

You have to be a bit stronger with the negotiation as they are selling horses every day, and take what they tell you with a pinch of salt, but ultimately you'll know if you like the horse (I don't think it's the sort of decision someone can 'talk you in to') and as long as you get a full vetting I don't see the problem.

There are plenty of equally unscrupulous private sellers out there!

My friend brough a fab mare from Emma and is really pleased with her!

I think there are some very good dealers out there and Emma is certainly one of them.

I totally agree with Diamond SR there is an equal amount of unscrupulous private sellers out there!

I've just been told that both the dealers mentioned above are really good but have no personal experience of them. There is one near to them that hasn't been mentioned that i would steer well clear from if your buying a first horse. Just make sure you ask on here for any info on a dealer you may go to, to get feedback first. Wish i had done that!

Thanks all, it's a bit of an usually one as it's for my brother-in-law who is a complete novice but my sister is a very experienced (showjumps at grade A level) it's just that it's obviously not what she normally rides so needs some good honest contacts who have that type of horse for sale. CeeBee - it's Billy we're going to see, if he's not sold over weekend. I'm going with her as she says if I feel safe on it then so will most of the general public!! (I think she's trying to tell me something about my riding!! lol!!)
