I'm looking for a horse which is bombproof in traffic, gentle, loving and which a child could handle. Recently bought a show pony which we didn't know was part Arab at first and she can't handle her at all and neither can we sometimes! Looking for no higher than 15 hands and over 12 years old, a been and done there type! Please help!! :D

Have you tried looking on the PC site? They often have the type you are looking for on there which have been out grown either height wise or ability wise.:)

I have a totally bombproof, calm, child-friendly (well everyone-friendly really) pure arab but you can't have her because she's all mine! :p

Sorry for the joke - but why have you blamed the pony's breed for the problems?

Because she's too much for a 10 year old novice girl, Her looks are to die for but her temperement isn't unfortunately :(

Yes, the pony is too much (I don't dispute this in any way), but it's not the breed, it's just a bad match between rider and pony.

I really hope that you find the perfect match for your daughter and that they have many happy years together. :)

How about looking for something a bit smaller - imo a 15hh is too big for a novice 10yr old to handle, let alone ride, whatever the breed.

My son is just coming up to 10 yrs and has a 13.2 hh welsh x - it is a tiny bit tall for him, but wanted something to grow into. Handling wise it is very good, but even if it did behave in a naughty manner, my son would be the right size to deal with it.

Good luck in your search x

Sticking up for PBA's here - my Welsh D x arab was a sweet horse who carried many beginners when I ran my small riding school.

I hope you find the sort of horse you are looking for OP. Out of interest, how long have you had her? Is there any chance that she would be ideal for your daughter in a couple of years or so?

I think Faracat was asking why you think this is down to her being a pba?

Exactly.

My grey arab is very sensible and if I have problems, she just stands there and waits for me to sort myself out, she's just not the 'eeeek -panic' type and isn't hot or reactive.

Even the chestnut gelding (2 yo) is showing signs of becoming a calm, sensible boy. ;) :p

It's not the ponys fault in anyway at all, sorry it sounded like that! She just came from a bad breeder and was sold as a "first ridden, lead rein child's pony" but this isn't, everybody at the yard doesn't even think she is broken!! :/ she hasn't been handled much either, she's gorgeous but she's too much for a novice child who's very soft lol, she doesn't like being firm because she thinks it's "mean" haha, and sychnant we've only had her for nearly a month and my sister is quite tall because the pony is only 11.2hh and she's very tiny and fine! We didn't realise how small she was until we brought her home because it was a suprise for my sister you see. And it looks like she's too big for her already! :( I'd try and add a picture but I don't know how haha!

Little Saxon would be wonderful if she's alright with forward going, but safe! Not sure what he's done but he's had a wonderful time trying everything we've thrown at him so far. :-)

He's currently playing lead rein pony for a 6 year old!

We found a perfect first horse for a friends two boys, about two years ago. She is a 14hh ride and drive ex-brood mare. She is a heinz pony, with a fair bit of native in her, she was no show pony when we viewed her and had just been pulled in from the field. The older boy is now 13 and devoted to his pony, she is totally traffic proof and knows her job is to look after 'her' boys. The older boy now rides out on his own, while the younger one is still under supervision. I would recomend that you look for a similar type, she was quite cheap too.
