Hi all,

I am looking for a book from my childhood but I cannot remember either the name of the book nor the author. Hopefully someone here will remember it from the little snippets I can remember.

There is a girl who moved to the Scottish highlands and she is a bit of a wild child. She find this horse who is also quite wild. At some point he rears and she is kicked on the shoulder and subsequently faints from the pain in a school class room. Somehow or other Epona comes into the story and possibly a statue of a horse also.

Thank you for your help.

they are the jinny and shantih stories by the sounds of them believe theyre by patricia leitch...could be wrong about thd author

Sounds like it could be one of the Jinny books, by Patricia Mc-someone? It's about a girl who "acquires" a chestnut Arab called Shantih.... There was a series I think.

Thank you so much for your quick replies. I will have a moozy on Amazon and Book Depositary. I hope my 8 year old daughter will love the story as much as I did, and I hope it won't be too old fashioned for her.

Def Jinny and Shantih.

The statue of Epona is in the books (The Magic Pony) as is the mystical Red Horse (Night of the Red Horse).

There is also a statue of Epona in The Black Stallion - but I don't remember reference to it actually being Epona.

I think you have found your answer with the replies on here.
Just adding that my daughter is currently reading Fly by Night and will move on to Flambards by Peyton. I found out about these books from a previous post on here and my daughter loves this book. Really cheap from ebay.

I know that I could read any of K M Peyton's books now and still enjoy. Wonderful author!

I think your daughter would love them. I'm in my late 30's & have just reread them all. Loved them as much as I did when I was a child.

Yeah defo sounds like Jinny and Shantih. I had forgotten all about those books but the girl getting kicked vaguely rings a bell
