My friend is not having much luck in finding a capable rider to ride her sensible older horse to nanny younger horse. Any suggestions where she should advertise – are there any free horsey webites out there you can recommend? Many thanks.

How about in local tack shops, livery yards and show centers? If she has an instructor, maybe she could check if her instructor knows of anyone?

ahhh just had the same problem trying to loan our 15y/o. Got loads of 13 year olds saying they were capable, experienced and confident when they clearly weren't!! In the end we found somebody through a friend of a friend. Sorry really not much use, but makes me feel a bit saner to know I'm not the only person with this problem!

Is your friend looking for a competent rider to loan her horse or does she want someone to ride with her on her older horse while she (your friend) is riding a youngster??? Whereabouts is she?

My friend wants a capable rider to ride her older sensible horse whilst she rides her younger one who is better in company. She is very near Ditchling if that helps.

When I was advertising for a loaner for one of my horses, the place where I got most response from was our village post office!

I'd put adverts up in all the tack & feed shops as well, but I guess if you regularly go to those you probably already have a horse?

Has she thought of advertising for a hacking buddy? There must be loads of mums in the area who are competent riders but don't have the time or the finance to commit to having their own horse. I'd try local shop notice boards, saddlers, FridayAd (friend got someone for her retired GP DR stallion this way) and word of mouth - tell all the mums she knows!

If she does a fun ad which talks about the health benefits of getting fit in the fresh air she may find someone. I'd have leapt at the chance a year ago but I did something similar and ended up buying my own horse again!!!
