Does anyone have one? Or know where I can gt one for a decent price that isn't going to cost almost as much as the trailer did? I have bought an old Rice Europa trailer - it has done less than 1000 miles and has a full history - put it in for its service and it need no work doing to it :) Best of all - only cost me £300 in the first place. It could do with a lick of paint, but that can wait. But I do need a full width breast bar for it. Quotes so far are all over £100 - anyone know where i can try for a second hand one or a cheaper new one?

Hi, I posted a similar question a while ago under the heading "How safe is my old Rice trailer" and got this reply from rockysmum

If its the Rice with the large wooden partition, its easy to make a full lenth front bar.

Just unbolt the fastenings from one of the half partition bars and take it to a woodyard, they will cut a piece of wood to length and take enough off for you to bolt the fastenings to it.

I did it with an old one of mine. I think the wood was mahogany, not very expensive though.

I haven't seen a full length bar for the back, perhaps you could get one made. Without the partition you cant even use the chains.

I dont know if it would help but I replaced the back chains on mine with a seatbelt from the scrapyard. I bolted it to each side, it was strong and quick release in an emergency.

Even with a horse that is good to load you should never stand behind a ramp. Stand to the side then even if the horse goes back no-one is injured.

I stopped mine running back by leaving the top of the front ramp open, I think it helped being able to see out of the front.

Hope it helps.

I don't fancy making my own - I wouldn't trust it

Zoon what is there to trust - You mean you dont want it to snap as they lean on it when they travel - - I dont understand?

The 'original' Rice breast bars are wood with a thin metal covering.

I made my own - Works a treat, and Mare doesnt lean on it at all - you can tell by the white paint and lack of grease or sweat marks. - I have the one with the pins though it on both sides.
