Thought it might be worth asking quickly - does anybody have/know of a horse for sale? Preferably in Essex area but can travel, 16hh+, any breed, mare or gelding, no older than 12/13ish. Doesn't have to be a novice ride but does have to be fairly sane. Problem is, I only have about £2000 max to spend. Any ideas?

Seeing how much horses are up for sale for at the moment, I don't think 2k will get you much. If you're experienced you could think about an ex-racehorse otherwise you might be best to loan & save some more.

wait a few months horses are coming down - if you can stretch to 3 then you will be better off, 2k at the mo will buy you something nice but maybe with an issue.. good luck tho

Im desperate to sell my horse, he is based in suffolk, he is 3 years, backed, talented and a kind gentle nature... already hacking alone and company, burghley prospect, however, he is advertised at £5500, I would need more than £2000 for definite, are you able to come up with more????

He sounds incredible, but there's no way I could stretch to 5.5k. I could probably do 2.5k at the most. If you would consider putting him out on loan though I would definitely be interested.

I am experienced, but this would be the first horse I've actually owned, and just for that reason I wasn't sure about ex-racers. I am happy with something that has issues to work through, but I don't want to have to completely re-train a racehorse. Will definitely give it more thought though, I know my budget is very limiting.

word of caution:

"if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!"

Lots of people are saying about horses being over-priced etc or go for an ex racer etc. As a first owned horse I think an ex racer at £2,500 could be ok but I have first hand experience of both scenarios... I bought a 4yr old TB a few years back from a show producer, ex race trained but not raced... she was a poppet... until a year later, only doing very light schooling and some hacking she felt unlevel... vets bills later and she was found to have irreprable damage to BOTH hind suspensories!!! I had her 5stage vetted for purchase too!
at 5yrs she had to be retired as a broodmare as she would never get better!

Last November I bought a 17hh Irish sports horse 4ys to bring on while my youngster was growing up, I also had her vetted!! On getting her home she was quidding badly and underweight, I immediately got the dentist in only to be told she had never seen such horrific teeth! I have had to spend alot of money on dentistry and she will need this the rest of her life, she eats buckets of feed as she cant manage haylage/hay very well. She was extremely nervous when I bought her and needs very sensitive riding.....

...due to this mistake that is why I need to sell this precious youngster of mine, because I can t keep 2 on full livery, I have a very demanding job.... I am gutted, but the bigger horse would be passed on and get ill if not cared for properly! (and she has paces to die for!!!)

So... if it seems cheap, that probably because there is a reason... my horse may seem dear to some, but he has no illness, injuries or hang ups and he is very talented... so what price for a good, safe horse

Take your time finding one and I hope you find what you are looking for. x
