Not sure if I am allowed to post a wanted....... but if so,

As title, no crosses, preferably tri coloured bitch pup, small type good natured and family / farm raised. Fab home on small farm with other dogs, horses, kids etc.

Needed for my daughters Birthday end March/early April - 50 miles or so Monmouth.

Anyone know of anything?

Thanks x

Avoiding the cringe factor of buying a dog as a birthday present..

No.

You will find however there are hundreds of young JRTs in UK rescue. Please think of them, before putting your money into dubious breeders.

No need to cringe, we are very experienced dog owners/breeders ourselves and it is a very much wanted pup/dog.

If the rescue places weren't so fussy about having fenced gardens etc - which is out of the question for us on a rural farm with a drive of about 1/2 mile - and looked more at the home and care then we would be able to go to them. However, as they stand (maybe they have changed since I last tried) they are not an option.

I won't be buying from a 'dubious' breeder either.

I feel your pain there.

I always say try rescues, because I feel desperately sorry for the little dogs there who miss out, not for want of people wanting them - but for sometimes, overzealous rescue people!

I went out and bought my JRTs, both of them ;) for the same reason entirely!

That was from Epups. As I'm sure you're aware (being breeders yourselves) buy the best you can afford and don't always be conned by the old addages (don't pick the last of the litter/ choose the most outgoing one... etc etc)

My last of the litter, Lil, is the best dog I have ever known. To me she's perfect. Roly (the pick of the litter, tearing around with his brother) is a complete social retard, God love him!!! :D

Have you tried feed stores/ tack shops? Our local ones often have adverts for JRTs on their noticeboards.
As long as it is within a knowledgeable family I don't have a problem with pups as birthday present. My daughter had her Lancashire Heeler pup for her 3rd birthday, they had nearly 15 wonderful years together.:)

A little while ago there were some JRT pups on the Manytears rescue site based in Wales somewhere - and also some slightly older but still pup JRTs. Obviously you'd rather get a pup, so why no try a rescue one and suit both worlds?

Just had a quick look and there's a cute 7 month old called Ray - I'd have him in a shot.

Ooo oo oo and some 8 week Cairn terriers - lovely dogs..

(I keep looking and popping back on here....)

The OP doesn't say how old her daughter is, but unless she's at LEAST a teenager, I wouldn't get a rescue JR for a child! One of the main reasons JRs end up in rescues is because they bite the kids - due to children not being taught to handle them properly - and JRs being very reactive!

My own JR-cross (seen here helping my husband rebuild someone's network :D)

was a rescue. Because he was 'naughty' (can you imagine that - a 6 month old terrier being naughty!) - he was locked in the coal shed for 23 hours a day and then let out for the kids to play with!! (Hardly surprising a kid or two got nipped!!)

He is still not very happy with children!!

JG I don't think that's a factual representation. Most of the JRTs I know are in rescue for the same reason as a lot of mongrel types - they are overbred.
