I currently keep my boy at a lovely local yard with lots of facilities. However, the horse he shares his paddock with is owned by someone with different turnout ideas to myself. Basically, she likes to keep her horse in a lot more than I do and today I had a text from her asking me not to put my horse out as it was too wet .

Although I didn't agree with her on this, it is her paddock - I am sharing it just so my boy has company - I was offered a paddock of my own but said I'd rather have a friend for him - so of course I have to respect her wishes. We just have different views as I like my pony out as much as possible.

So... in order to reduce the amount my boy is out on his own or in 24/7 I'm thinking of getting a loan horse so they can both share their own paddock. My pony would also then have a pony in the stable next to him which would be nicer for him as well. As I am pregnant and getting bigger, I also want something my novice OH can ride on hacks with me as I don't really like to hack alone at the moment.

So I am looking for:

Something over 15.2hh that is quiet and sensible to hack in company on quiet lanes, around the fields and also to take for the occaisional gallop up our gallop track. Must be good in traffic and safe enough for a relative (but carefully supervised!) novice. If the horse was capable of a couple of light school sessions that would be great but not essential.

In return, I am able to offer a lovely yard with gorgeousl facilities and all year turn out in experienced home as I'm a BHSAI working full time as an instructor. I also have a developing interest in NH techniques and would be happy to consider a horse with minor problems or issues as long as it was safe for my OH to hack out with me.

Would probably want the horse initially just for the winter with the possibility of longer depending how it all went.

So... my questions are

> how reasonable are my requirements
> how likely is it that I might find something suitable
> where are the best places to advertise for what I want.

Many thanks for any advice

If you are willing to take something on with soundness issues, I expect you will find what you want. Shame you want 15.2hh+ as I'm casually looking for a light hacking home for my mare. But she's not a weight carrier, max 9st, so probably too small for your OH.

Yes, it hink your lovely horse would be too small, my OH is 101/2 stone. He sits on my Haffie sometimes but is too big really. Also my Haffie is waaaaay too sharp for a novice

I am kind of picturing an older horse that maybe can't do too much any more, would be happy to manage soundness issues provided I felt the horse was happy in his work.

Loan only as with first baby on the way I don't want to take on any more major commitments. Loan would hopefully be for 6 months initially. If I found it too much to cope with, would have the option of changing my mind at that point.

Plus all available finaces currently heading into baby stuff ATM!

I have exactly what you are looking for!

However, he is on loan to me and I don't want to let him go - soooorrrryyy.

ANyway, I found him through the Freeads website - worth a look. Good luck.

Hiya don't know where you are based? but jon lee at freshwater holiday park loans his out for the winter some of them would be perfect for what you want.
