Hi, I'm new to the forum! Thought it would be a great place to help me throughout my hourse buying and owning journey.

Its been around 10 years since I last owned horses and I'm now back in a position to have one again. I have been shopping around for a couple of weeks and it's so hard finding one that ticks all the boxes, and when I do find one I seem to have real trust issues with the sellers not being genuine. Also I notice the prices have shot right up since I last had one.

I saw an advert for one today that looked fantastic and ticked boxes, contacted the seller for more information and they seem evasive and hard work to get information out of. Requested a video of him being ridden in a school and received a video of them plodding around a yard bare back and a head collar. I just gave up trying it was frustrating ?

I am looking after loosing mine back in July. It has been 15 years since I was last pony shopping.

I am going to do my own wanted advert.

Its very hit and miss with looking at buying ponies you either have the people aka dealers who are after the money and just want the pony sold and some can be very unhonest. or people who have genuine family ponies and are either very reluctant to sell or Genuinely want the best for them these I would say is what I would look at as they do want the best interest in the pony and you, they usally come from full history known loving homes aswell. It can be hard to see the difference but i would reccommend researching the person selling on a few pages especially if there a dealer and also asking people you know if they have heard good things etc

Years ago I made my own flyer on A5 paper, printed them off at work and put them on everyone's windscreen at a SJ comp at the local riding club. Got a smashing horse that I owned for 2.5 yrs before sadly losing him to a heart attack or brain aneurysm.

The flyer idea worked so well I might do it this next time round.

Although l would never do it l can see why people choose to sell at auction. You take animal, clean tidy etc hopefully with previous photos on the website, agree a reserve price which these days isn’t going to be any where near meat money, and with luck the horse is sold to the highest bidder, which hopefully will be a good home, also fed up of trundling round the country.
Selling anything these days is a nightmare, people are so suspicious and even with a clear 5 stage vetting May decide not to buy!! I’ve now had 6 potential buyers ie those that l have selected as being suitable, after many texts, phone calls, photos etc not turn up to view. A wanted ad could be a good idea but may not be any more successful than a selling ad.
I’m certainly not going to phone up anyone who might be looking and so waste still more time and energy, instead l have decided l’ll just have some field ornaments which is a shame as they’d love to be out doing things and are sane sensible with good records.

Whereabouts in the country are you please? And what are you selling? I’m seriously looking to buy. I’d be very interested to hear from you. Thanks
