I've just moved to York from Amsterdam and, starting midFebruary I'm looking for a horse or a place to/ where I can learn/groom/train/ride/muck out/have fun. Any kind of adventure involving me learning more about the techniques used with Natural Horsemanship (and parelli), and hopefully helping one or more horses (and people) along the way would be fantastic!
I am only looking for places already using natural horsemanship as a training method or have an open mind to this type of training. I'm quite familiar with the groundwork, yet not as accustomed to riding using the NH techniques (I know the theory but haven't had a lot of practice due to not being able to ride my horse who has a permanent leg injury)
I mainly use Pat Parelli's methods, but have added some Monty Roberts' Join Up, and I've picked some other bits and pieces up along the way.
I'm a student so I won't have loads of time but 1-3 times a week should be possible.
I'd like it to be in/near York, and easy to get to by bus or bicycle (Being Dutch I'm used to cycling about 15-30 kms a day)
info about me:
I am 22 years old;
have been to Australia for four months where I have trained young horses to be haltered and saddled, one of them backed;
have trained arabs using mainly Monty Roberts' method;
have achieved great things (groundwork) with my horse, most of it on line and a bit of liberty. because she can't be ridden anymore, we've done lots of walking and parelli games;
have ridden English style since I was 9, but have always been interested in riding a horse as natural as riding can be (a horse is never meant to be sat on, but hey... they let us!)
Worked at a riding school for 6 months, riding horses, taking children and adults out for trailrides, turning out horses, mucking out 26 stables 5 days a week (no, I'm not doing this again, but I'll muck out a few for you if you'd like);
have given private lessons to children ages 8-14;
have given advice to people aged 20+ on natural horsemanship and understanding your horse.
Reason for starting midFeb is because of my own leg injury. I broke my leg in November and it's still healing... I'm walking around again but my balance isn't 100% yet, and I can't cycle at the moment or ride. I can help with some things at the moment, but not with everything I'd like to do.
Looking for something till late June, that's when I head back home.
