My husband and I were meant to be going on holiday next month, but obviously that won’t be happening with coronavirus. He is saying he’d rather go somewhere in Britain, but that’s only of interest to me if I can ride for an hour or two each day. Can anyone please recommend a riding school with good hacking in an area worth visiting on holiday? I think we’d be looking for about 5 days in September.
Thanks in advance.

If you're feeling flexible on "Britain" you could tempt him with Castle Leslie Estate. It's in Monaghan in Ireland, though very close to the NI border. It's absolutely beautiful and I ride there once or twice a year (I live nearby). The grounds are stunning too and I'm sure there's lots on non horsey things to enjoy nearby too.

Northfield Farm Equestrian Centre have glorious hacking and horses suitable for experienced and beginner riders.

They are based in Flash in the High Peak, near Buxton. I don't know if they have their own accommodation but there are lots of B&Bs and holiday cottages nearby.

Thanks everyone! :) I'll look into those. I'm also thinking about Sussex, as it now seems there's somewhere we can stay without the expense of accommodation.

It is gorgeous, I haven't been for a while but some horsey friends went not long ago and said it is still just as good.

The horses go off to private homes in winter (as the weather is too bad up there for them to continue all year round) so they aren't follow my leader sour horses like some trekking centres. The staff know what they are doing and are happy to split groups so people who can ride can have a gallop and those that don't want to don't have to.

I would really recommend it. The ride to Four Shires Head is glorious.

In our group we had two rather rusty ladies and my OH who is a bit nervous of strange horses and riding at speed in open spaces so they had a steady canter and stopped to regroup at the gateways with one guide and then four of us had a proper blast with the other guide when they were safely out of the way. My friend has been in a group where some have wanted to just walk/trot and the staff still managed to make it work for everyone.
