Hi everyone, newbie reporting from Vienna, Austria! I own a Welsh D that I brought with me from Northern Ireland two years ago when I moved over here for work.

I've registered here looking for saddling advice.

After going through nearly a dozen unsuitable saddles in three years, I now ride in a treeless/leather tree Spanish saddle, the Startrekk Espaniola Bonita. It's great for flatwork and hacking, and I also use it for medieval reenactment and Working Equitation!

Unfortunately, however, my horse has just been diagnosed as a keen jumper - so while I'm terrified of anything over 50cm, I'm going to have to learn! And for that, I need a GP saddle, as the Spanish one just isn't suitable - no knee rolls, stirrup bars set back in a dressage position, and the high pommel makes it too easy to bruise your belly when jumping.

The problem is that they don't really "do" cob types over here. Nearly everyone rides a warmblood. I've already had two saddlers tell me "I don't have anything for that type of horse". The warmblood saddles are too narrow, and the wide ones they sell for their Haflingers and Norikers are too low in the wither. So I'm looking for something I can order from the internet and have shipped over.

My boy is a square type, 15.2hh and wears 6'3" rugs. He's broad in the chest and shoulders, has massive withers and a short, straight back - and I need an 18" saddle for my size 14/16 bum. I'd rather not go treeless for jumping, because I worry about putting too much pressure on his back in a two-point.

Could Thorowgood be an option? He had a Wintec when I bought him, but it just didn't fit at all.

Help!

Have you considered a Solution Saddle? They are treeless, with any combination of shims and pads available, in a variety of styles. They have a fairly easy to navigate website and when I was looking they wanted to see pictures of the horses backs and needed to know my vital statistics, they were very, very helpful and the saddles are wonderful :)

Thanks! I'll have a look at them, but I'm not sure treeless is good for jumping...

By the way, did I post this in the right place? There seemed to be no sub-forum specifically for tack questions.
