My BE novice mare has just been diagnosed with severe bone spavin in her right hock aged 13 and having decided to go down the surgical route followed by 12 months of rehabilitation I've also decided to get cracking with my next event horse. Her future as an event horse is looking unlikely and Im hoping that she will eventually make a nice riding club, happy hacking horse after the operation has taken effect (there is of course a chance that it wont).
I've set my sights on buying a youngster (4 - 5), gelding, to make approx 16.1-16.3, thoroughbred x. I've been to see a couple of people locally, (Brian Lear, Donal Barnwell etc.) but nothing has presented itself yet.

Does anyone have any useful advice on people to contact? First hand experience of proven eventing sires? (I know of Cav Royal, Jumbo, Mill Law etc., but who are the more current eventing sires that people would recommend?)

I was thinking about giving Vere Phillips a call but cant find his details anywhere. Does anyone have a number for him that they could pm me?

: )

Have PMd you with Vere's details

If you're looking at Donal Barnwell's then you'll be in the same ballpark, money-wise, as to Vere's - not cheap, but there to do the job.

A friend of mine is the work rider at Vere's - they do what they say on the tin!!

Not sure whre you are but would highly recommend Mark Bosanko (Bosanko Equine Services). Many of his horses he has sold have gone on to have amazing careers. A local event rider to me has brought 2 (possibly more now!) off him and the first is already at Novice level (within a year) and the other has qualified for the 4 year old champs after his first ever event...

There are numerous others to mention but I won't bore you with them all!

Forgot to add - they are all reasonably priced as well!

Spacefaer - Thank you very much for your PM with Vere's numbers! Ill make sure to give him a call tomorrow.

Wonkey Donkey - An interesting point, but do you think he's expensive because you're paying for quality? Or do you think you pay more for the fact its from him and he has a good reputation?

Loverly - Im based in West Sussex but willing to travel. Thank you for the tip, ill look him up.
