Hi Wonder if folk out there can help us. We have sold our house in the overbuilt NW area and want to relocate to somewhere southwards of here with good countryside for horses in general and definitely off-road hacking. We don't have a specific area in mind as we work from home. Any good suggestions/help/ contact leads would be most welcome. Thanks

Umm, where is "here"???

How about Warwickshire, Staffordshire or Leicestershire all have good horsey things around. Your also not too far (about 1hour) from anywhere really.

Hi Can you be more specific regarding areas - we need to narrow it down. Looking at maps, even walking maps don't really help much regarding where good off-road riding is. Do you have knowledge of anywhere within these 3 counties rather than just a generalisation? Thanks

Hi
Not restricted to how far in the South West - do you have any knowledge of specific areas down there that is ideal? we have looked at maps but it's very difficult without local know-how. Thanks

That's interesting - but we have decided to move out of the county - fed up of the damp cold weather too! Glad you have somewhere you are happy Cheers

Hmmm...was going to suggest the area around the Long Mynd in Shropshire, but funnily enough that's cold and damp too. The Chilterns, Bucks, if you have deep pockets. Plenty of shelter!

Exmoor, Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor and east of SW is the New Forest

How healthy is your budget? I love where we are in the New Forest but unfortunately its too expensive for us to buy anywhere with land. Although we can rent a field relatively inexpensively and our ponies rough it all year round! We have miles and miles of off road riding and its a good central loaction for everything along the south coast. Maybe it is a bit too far south for you though?

South shropshire.

Agreed :D
We are in Bridgnorth area -south Shropshire/Worcestershire border, have fabulous hacking, lots of horsey stuff in the area and the jack mytton way :D

Well with the Warwickshire /Leicestershire border, if you get a map and draw a circle around from say M69 J3 across to M6 J3, down to J1 then back across to M1 j17, then back round up to where you started. There's loads of green countryside, villages, and towns. Your on the door steps of Atherstone hunt, Pytchley Hunt (excuse spelling), there's Solihull riding Centre, Weston Lawns, High Cross, Onley, Witham Villa, most do bsja all do sj,eventing and dr. also there are 5 unaffl local riding clubs to choose from, not to mention loads of bridleways. If thats not enough you are about 1hrs driving distance from anywhere because of the motorway network which surrounds you.

Hi New Forest sounds a great option but we don't unfortunately have deep pockets. We don't have horses at the moment but want to loan/share wherever we move to. Where do you recommend in/around the New Forest? We have stayed near Brockenhurst previously but of course prices of house are exortionate round the 'honeypots'. Can you suggest an area with more reasonably prices homes that still allow us access to the open trails? Appreciate your help Thanks

Some of the villages on the outskirts of the forest are alot more affordable than the little touristy, more central villages like Brockenhurst, Burley etc. It really does depend on what you are looking for. I used to live in Totton which was a 10 min drive from the Forest and (for the South coast) reasonably affordable. We have now moved to Bramshaw just inside the Forest boundary and really love it (we have the cheapest house in the village!!) and from here you can ride for hours off road. I've done a quick search on rightmove which will give you an idea of what you can find in this area. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property...}&sortType=1&includeSSTC=true&_includeSSTC=on I believe Fordingbridge and Ringwood also have some more affordable properties with easy access to the National Park but I'm less familiar with the western edge.
