I am helping a friend look for a livery yard or private yard for her TB mare. She's a 15.1 ex polo mare but my friend is quite busy with a young family so will need assisted DIY or part livery or something. Does anyone know of anywhere near Bramley, Sherfield on Loddon, or near to those areas as she lives near those places. Must be child friendly and laid back and friendly and have access to good hacking with minimal road work. thanks :-)

Don't know of any out Bramley way but on the way in to Reading there are a few - depends on what kind of livery you want/what your budget is:

Wheatlands Farm - offers full, part and DIY - lovely facilities but limited hacking - yard offers regular clinics/competitions and there are quite a few kids/teenagers
Farley Hall - I believe offers full and part (v v expensive though) - great facilities, good hacking, rather more grown up though
Greenacres Farm (in Eversley) - offers part and DIY - great grazing (almost too good), good facilities, access to Bramshill Forest (which requires a permit) but there's a little roadwork and a ford to cross to get there, a few children, nice atmosphere (this was our previous yard - we moved b/c we worked out it was actually not much more expensive to have Kal on full livery plus my trainer (who schools Kal for me three times a week) is based at our new yard)
Longreach (also in Eversley) - part and DIY - immediate access to Bramshill Forest, great facilities - not sure about the kid quota
Barossa - family-run, also operates as a RS - fab location, decent facilities, operates full and working livery, great hacking
Perry Bridge Farm (in Sandhurst) - good facilities, not sure about off-road hacking, there are kids there, they offer DIY and part

In addition, there are a couple of yards right on the doorstep of Bramshill Forest in Eversley but I don't know what they're called - pretty sure they have decent facilities and offer part and DIY.

If you wanted to go down the full livery yard route I'd say stay well clear of Rycroft (also a RS) - they've just experienced a change in management and things are in quite a state of upheaval there at the moment - shame as it used to be a lovely yard - I'm sure it will come right again in time but there's too much change there at the minute - very high turnover of horses and livery owners. I'd recommend my yard (in Shinfield) but we're full and have a waiting list.

Hope that helps.
