Kind of fussy really!! Have a nice horse who I compete BSJA (whenever I can get a lift) but she is dust sensitive and doesn't do traffic. Need a yard with floodlit school as I ride eves in winter, individual or small group turnout as I won't risk my horse in a mass scrum! Would prefer a well run competition type yard - not keen on novice/happy hacker yards as it easier to remain motivated to progress/compete when you are with like minded people. struggling to find anywhere (suprisingly!!)- any suggestions?

Where in the Bristol area? I am on a nice competative yard (with some happy hackers but lots of competative types) just north of Bristol (two outdoor schools, both floodlit, one indoor, indoor lunge, walker, washbox with solarium, equissage to hire, lots of people who'd give lifts, individual turnout that can be 24/7 in summer and is every day in winter, with paddocks rotated evry six months ish and off-road hacking on the fields that belong to the yard etc...)

Sounds like the perfect yard Twigggy, don't suppose they could move it to up here in Wales?

What about moving to the Hand? They used to do livery, hacking is quiet and you wouldn't need a lorry to compete? Which side of Bristol are you?

You could try Terri Hill, she hasn't got good hacking, which may be a problem, though you can hack to Ashton Court, she SJ's a lot and would probably take you to shows. her Mum is Mary the judge, you may have come across her...
Alternatively Hartley Wood, is being turned into a competition/livery yard. they have very nice facilities and good hacking. Mighyt suit you very well if it isn't too far.
Also close to you, is Jane Billing at Failand, she does liveries and there would be a few people competing from her yard, and Debbie Payne at Abbots Leigh, don't know if she does liveries still but that's a fab yard - used to be Rodney Powell's base. That would be very close.
PM me if you want any numbers.

M you are a mine of useful information - I should have posted on here when I was looking to move to the area! (although I am happy where I've ended up!)

Also even if Hand doesn't still do liveries there are a few yards within close hacking distance. If you don't mind hoiking over there, Denise Crossman would be fab, she's got Jason Hobbs based there and he teaches, as well as competing, Nick Burd has a livery yard just up the road from the hand, and there's a nice livery yard right next door.

Blimey I didn't know that. He's a good guy, very funny and really helpful. His yard is a real laugh and full of competition riders so there would probably be lots of lifts & training there.

Have just had a look at the web site - fabulous yard and facilities - am very jealous. Think it may be a little too far out for a DIY pauper like me with a full time job (must make mental note to look harder for rich and devastatingly handsome man) - what area of Bristol are you in and how long does it take you to get there?

p.s thanks for all other replies - Terri Hill's may well be worth a try. Not sure where Hartley Wood is?? And as for Jane Billings... If you have ever seen the dark side of that woman you will understand why it is definitely not an option!!

Takes me exactly 30 mins door to door from Cotham area of Bristol. They will turn out am for you for £1.20 a day (I think, could be £1.50) which includes any feeding and rug-changing and general odds and sods you need like bandages off or boots on. (Or alternatively bring in PM for the same). I am lucky in that I work up there in the next village along, so it is dead handy for me during the week, and at the w/e I only go up once a day.

Oh yes, just thought, I know it's pricy and hasn't got brilliant turn-out in the Winter (so I've heard), but how about Leyland Court up at Filton? They do lots of fabby competitions there, a bit of everything, so no need for transport!

The yard I'm on is fab but no spaces atm (and I've reserved the next 2 available due to my expanding equine family)
Can recommend Nick Burd's place though the schools there arent great.
