Where are the supposed influx of good cheap horses?! Cos i can't find them! We're on the look for my husband. He sadly lost his TB after a freak field accident last year. My husband has rode for a long time but had only got back into jumping about a year and a half ago with Freddy (the TB we lost). We bought an ISH towards the end of last summer which turned out to be a big mistake. We'd done all the trials, etc. But unfortunately it became apparent when he was with us that he needed far more work than we'd been led to believe to stay sane. (he was getting worked 5 times a week with us) In hindsight he was too green and tried it on a lot. Mostly baby dealable things but he then started dropping a shoulder to try and ditch his rider. Made the decision to sell before OH lost confidence on him.
So - we now are looking for another horse for him. Requirements being:
Over 16hh
Preferably gelding but would consider mares
Nothing too green so preferably over 8, will look at older horses and probably would rather one around the 12-15 mark
Good to hack alone and in company
Mainly to do low level jumping (2'6-2'9), hack and a bit of schooling. Not after a competition horse, just a sensible type thats genuine and willing to work. Basically a step up from a happy hacker.
Happy to live out with gelding and shetland mare in paddock with shelter (have stabling but prefer ours to live out)
Budget not spectacular as took a fair hit selling on the ISH for a quick sale. So only looking around £2-2.5k. I thought this would be ok as we're looking at older horses, but there just doesn;t seem to be much about at the moment. :( So if anyone knows of anything fitting our requirements please let me know. Would also be happy to loan but they seem even harder to find than the ones for sale!

They are out there just like buses. Keep looking. I bought a 13yr old school mistress type last July. 100% in traffic, well schooled but I just wanted a safe forward going hack who could perhaps pop a log if we met one. I paid £2,250 for mine

Rare as hens teeth these types, and truly worth their weight on gold, but the market seems pretty flat, so hopefully you'll find something that fits within your budget. Just might take a while. Those steady Irish types are still coming over, and some of them not making their way into burgers , although might be a wee bit young/green.

Mine almost fits your description but is only 16hh and only 6 so they are out there! You might have to pay a little more if you can't wait for the right one at the right price.
