Looking for someone/yard to introduce my young horse to hunting Gloucestershire

Hi, I am moving to the Stroud area in a few weeks and have a 6 yr old homebred mare who due to various injuries has so far has rather a sheltered life! The aim is to event her next year, but she is currently too laid back with her work and i think a season of hunting could be the making of her. However hunting isn't really my thing and i also would never have the time to get her out regularly.

Therefore I would love to find either a individual or yard that would take her on for a few weeks to introduce her to it, preferably cubbing at first before the real stuff begins. She is generally well mannered and often lazy, but like any young horse will get excited by hunting and especially the other horses rushing around so would need someone with a good seat and common sense to look after her as the last thing i want is more injuries. If that went well i would love to find someone to hunt her through the season once a week or so, perhaps an avid hunter needing a second horse/ replacement due to injury.

I have no real knowledge or contacts of the hunts around Stroud and am not even sure if there are yards that offer introducing horses to hunting as a service? So an advice much appreciated and if anyone out there is looking for a horse to hunt in the area please PM me! Thanks

Well I know plenty who would jump at the chance! I would for one :)

Not sure which one's are nearest Stroud...let me ask a friend who might be able to help :)

Best one would be to get in contact with some local hunts and chat to them they may be able to pass you on to someone who can help you, and put adverts up on their sites etc.

There's the VWH, Avon Vale, Beaufort, Berks and Bucks Draghounds which come nearer Swindon way sometimes, and the Cotswolads hunts too, but I'm not sure which ones are there as never been that far up I'm afraid.

I would recommend Vicky Vatcher who is down near Thornbury. V sympathetic, events & breaks youngsters, as well as hunts. Or Dave Guilding, who is near Elmore nr Glos. Both v good and both hunt with the Berkeley.

Thank you for the recommendations. i am following them all up, although SpaceFaer your excellent one is 6 months pregnant! but she is going to have a think whether she knows anyone.

Oops! sorry about that! Haven't seen her since the end of last season!! :)

Keep us posted with your progress

ETA - Just thought I'd add, I would be delighted to help, but am a little further north
