My husband and I are looking for standard poodle breeders - specifically anyone who breeds the apricot colour range! Know it sounds a bit weird but hubby is allergic to all dogs except poodles and I just love the apricot/champagne colours! I'm discovering they are quite rare, so would be might grateful if anyone knows of any and can point me in the breeders direction.

Much appreciated,
Abs

ALWAYS do your homework on the breeder first - plenty of puppy farmers use these sites too - my best tip is to go via the breed clubs - ask them to reccommend a breeder and be prepared to wait - avoid any breeder who does not health test ( and has the certs to prove it !) - or who has loads of different breeds - they should encourage you to visit and be prepared to provide back up after you've bought your pup - including having the puppy back should you be unable to keep it. - good luck - you've chosen an unsual (and very beautiful ) colour so it may be quite a long wait for 'your' puppy - but don't be tempted to cut corners - you will have to live with the results for a long time

Contact Lee at Vanitoniapoodles@aol.com or Rodger at KertellasPoodles@aol.com both world class breeders of std poodles. If they don't have apricot, and do buy a very dark 'ginger' one as a puppy as the colour dilutes very quickly they will give you good recommendations of who has. If your puppy is the perfect colour, then by adulthood it will be cream so you want a fairly dark apriot bordering on red.

We have had our std poodle for 12 years, she is nearing the end of her days, so it is a big wrench for us right now. They make the most wonderful pets, have a fantastic sense of humour and clown around for fun all of the time. Expect the first two years to be fun, Keisha spent those years virtical, on her hind legs, don't think she realised she had 4 legs.

Good luck with your search. Std's (and we have had all sizes of poodle) are so different from mins & toys, no yapping, not many health problems and bark like a GSD!!!

Thanks for the advice. The really annoying thing is, is that I've just had a call from a wonderful breeder who has a girl left from her recent litter - but it's just too early. We're not moving house until mid-December, go away for a 3 week holiday (a last hurrah) and then I'm not going to be able to leave work for a few months...and I won't leave a puppy at home alone...Looks like my timing is all out!

go along to the NEC next saturday and you can see them and their breeders as there is the 2nd biggest Championshp Dog show on ( The LKA) - a great opportinuity to talk to some of the best breeders in Standards around !

Looking at your pic has brought a tear to my eye. Our lovely black standard dog was hit by a car & killed almost three years ago. He had Vanitonia lines as well.
I can only echo everything you say about the sense of humour & the comedic nature of these dogs, as well as the energy, & the leaping around on the hindlegs.
I still miss ours.
