Hi folks; hoping some of you can help. I'm moving to Leicester in a couple of months and need to find a yard for my horse. My wish list is- not too far from Leicester, preferably indoor & outdoor schools plus good grazing and hacking. If it had some riding club competitions that would also be fun- I'm hoping also that if I find a nice new yard with other adults riders I can make some new friends- I know no-one in Leicester. All recommendations very very welcome. thanks in advance. Fiona (& Bob, my lovely horse)

Echo the others - do you know where in Leicester yet?

I know the north/northwest side far better than the rest, but I used to work in Melton, Harborough & Rutland, and drove past lots of yards on my trips.

thanks everyone for your responses. truth is- i still don't know which side of leicester i'll be living! haven't sorted that out yet. may end up depending on finding the right yard, i'm much more picky about where Bob lives than where I live!! all i know is I'll be working in the Centre of town, and would hope that I can find a yard within 30 mins drive time of central Leicester, ideally.

with all that in mind--- if you can recommend ANY good yards i'll start looking into them. thanks heaps. fiona

Blaby Mill Stables fits all your needs! http://www.sanibelholiday.co.uk/blabymill/
I go there all the time to use their indoor and outdoor schools, they have dressage and clear round jumping shows every month (run by the B.R.R.A: http://www.brra.org/ and Hinckley Dressage: http://www.hinckley-dressage.org.uk/index.php/home.html so two riding clubs!), loads of nearby hacking too as Mill Lane is a bridleway which leads to others. they have year round turnout and hard standing so if you have a trailer, you can keep it there.

There is Hurst Saddlers in Wigston and Attfields Farm Shop nearby and Blaby is only about 6 miles or so from Leicester City Centre.

I love Blaby Mill Stables as I know several people there and if I gave up my field down the lane form there, that is where I'd go :)

Blaby is very good if you're that side of Leics. If you are coming from the other way Somerby is Excellent for competitions, XC course etc.

Brooksby is great for facilities and events- I keep my horses on a private yard about 3 miles from there, we have an outdoor and that's it, but often load up, use their indoor, SJ's, XC etc and attend weekly events they have their- British Riding Clubs have a riding club there, there are unafilliated and affiliated SJ/XC/Dressage shows there, including famous names such as Zara Philips etc who go there!!
They do livery too but I think it is more on a working livery basis- a friend has her pony there on WL and pays minimal a week and get s feed, shoes etc all included!
It takes me about 15 mins down the main Abbey Lane or Belgrave road to get into the centre of leics from Queniborough/Syston- dead easy! Also The Clothes Horse tack shop is literally down the road too- lots of yards usually on the notice board there- great hacking around here. I can ride all the way towards Market Harboro' on Bridleways and small roads!

Another one would be Markfield Equestrian Centre, or Park View...both larger yards with plenty of surfaces and facilities...hacking much better at PV though as you have Bradgate Park, Siwthland, The Beacon etc all in lovely hacking disances...

Hope this helps!
