Looking to buy Horsebox but on DVLA...

is it a conversion? I had this with the one i have. When the Reg doc came through it said it was a white tipper.....i looked out the window and laughed at the sight of a YELLOW cab with a grey horsebox built on the back! :D

Friend told me to get it corrected at the DVLA right away before i got stopped by the Police!!

Had to take pics with me of the lorry and fill in a form - job done! Reg doc now says Grey and Yellow stock container. I did say horsebox but that is what they have out so im guessing its OK, they had the pics there to see for themselves! ;)

Im not sure on upping the tonnage im afraid, best to ask the DVLA themselves ;)

Thank you, do they charge for that? Also how simple is it to up the weight?

I think i paid £20 for the admin fee and that was it, i actually went in to the local DVLA and did it there and then, the new one came through the post within 2 weeks.

I have no idea about upping the weight, i have never looked into it so i cant help on that one sorry :(

Ring up your local dvla or pop in, my chasis was an ex navy lorry, we put my old box on it, the local dvla man came to us checked it including all its chassis numbers, then it was called on horsebox and I had a new reg number as previously had been on private navy plate. Hope that helps:)

I had my horsebox for 3 years & it had been plated 3 times when it was picked up that the plate details weren't correct.

When a lorry is changed into a horsebox you don't just notify DVLA, you also need to notify VOSA. This is a must because as ridiculous at it may sound DVLA & VOSA don't speak to each other. They operate independently so you have to send a form in. The change costs £29 at the moment & it's easy to do. The initial owner of the lorry only told DVLA & didn't notify VOSA. :)

I can't help with uprating your box,but my doc also says mine is something other than a horsebox. I contacted the DVLA and they advised they don't recognise horseboxes. I have kept the letter with my docs incase of future probs, but all the boxes I viewed were listed nder their original identity, presume because of this. They did change the colour free, for me,however.

If you wish to upgrade the payload of the vehicle it will have to be modified by an engineer and then checked and certified by VOSA.
