Yes, I would agree, he has been showing some good form lately on the Continent.Interesting that Guy Goosen was second, always a class jockey.

to that owner money is no problem so he might and nic85 that horse was 4th in the Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Hamburg three weeks ago with Will Funnel so clearly has plenty of ability and is one of Will's top horses.

Yes, I heard this at Bramham. He was sold straight after Hamburg. Potentially a big loss to GB. Can't blame Will though - horses are his business, and as we all know, horses can go very wrong without prior warning, so it makes it's not reasonable to turn down big offers unledss you're in the happy position of not having to worry about money. Will has already sold a number of Billy horses. They are not in sole ownership - he's in partnership with Donal Barnwell.

Cassio Rivetti rides rather well so it will be interesting to see what happens particularly as Mr Onischenko (sp) bought Latinus for Gregory Wathelet, let him win a few classes and then sold him to Denis Lynch's people for a huge profit......

Nooooo, William wouldn't sell a Billy horse... Would he?

Everything on Will's yard is for sale...at the right price ;-)

He's not completely without backup though as Billy Congo is stepping up to the top levels now and is rated very highly.

On a separate point, i saw Beowulf was ridden by someone else recently....has he been sold too ?

I was at Bramham for the weekend and was pleased to see Will win the 6-Bar with Beowulf. So I guess when you saw him, either someone was trying him or he was being kept ticking over while Will was elsewhere. Billy Congo didn't go well in Saturday's A & B but was much better in the GP in which he was 8th.

I didn't see Beowulf being ridden...he was just listed as winning and placing in a couple of classes at the South of England last weekend....and being 'exhibited' by Shane Breen

Billy Congo was in the money there too...as was Mondriaan

Although it is unfortunate that a good horse has gone out of the UK, surely this is a huge boost for good Brit breeders and producers - I'm sure D Barnwell/ W Funnell partnership is one a proper businesslike footing where profit is the target.

Controversial thought perhaps, but it is a good sign surely that we are focussing on performance breeding and looking out of the UK box to achieve this.

Apologies to those GB breeders who have tirelessly preserved age old lines, but to mind this is (commercially) what the game is about.

Runs away and hides in the stable behind my KWPN..................

No please.... I am too young (not) to die!!

I don't think you need run away, imo there is no money to be made in this country by keeping them for yourself to ride on the circuit. Money in the sj game is producing them to then sell for big money on the continent and thats what DB and WF have done. Good luck to them. If team GB and the BSJA want to retain good horses in this country they have to make it an attractive and lucrative proposition surely.

Horse went for a very good price which is a boost for British sport horse breeders. Perhaps the start of them being more 'in the game', and Birr's success has laid a good foundation for the Billy stud. If it continues to win on the continent then that's great exposure for the stud and it all helps build up a reputation. In sport horses, the money is made from producing and selling - i'm sure they didn't shed any tears over it!
