Jerry's scared of puddles :o Not good when I've planned to take him xc once we get transport sorted so I thought that we would have a play in the puddles in the outdoor school as it's flooded at the moment thanks to the vile weather :D

He's really food orientated so I got him to walk into the puddle and stand. He would then get a polo mint.

Can you see where this is going yet?

I was digging around in my jacket pocket trying to get more polos out of the packet and the cheeky beggar wandered off into a puddle, stood and then turned round to nudge my leg for a polo

and I thought they were called "dumb-bloods" for a reason :D

i once had a lesson on my fat cob where we taught him to rein back. when he did it he got a mint. next time i stopped he backed up all the way down the arena! he wanted another mint. clever when there's food involved.

Must be a ginger warmblood thing

I was really impressed with my boy when I had to hot tub him due to an abscess. I could leave him tied up at one end of the yard when I mucked out/filled haynets etc. and he would just stand with his foot in the bucket - he had so many 'good boy' comments from everyone I think it went to his head.

Afterwards, every time someone went past his stable he would stand in his waterbucket for the attention... He used to look so pleased with himself

LOL :D That's awesome!

I have never been able to work out if he is actually quite intelligent or just exceedingly food orientated. He was involved in a research project at Glasgow Uni a few years ago - various 'intelligence' tests including finding their way through a maze - all for a food reward.

My boy somehow came top on ALL the tests - but I bet if there was no food involved he would not have done it! I think the smarter horses have a 'what is in it for me?' attitude, T is just food obsessed :)

ETA: OP - he didn't much like water to begin with either but absolutely loves it now :)

to be fair to jerry, there aren't many puddles in dubai :p
I'm actually hoping the puddles are still in the outdoor so we can 'jump' into them with a few strategically places fences :p

rhino - bet he loved that :D he was probably thinking 'wow, how clever am I?'
