Loop Knife Hoof Sharpener advice!

OH uses a R and L knife - it is not a full loop but I suppose the principle is the same:

He uses a very fine round file as a sort of steel (we use one similar to sharpen the chainsaw teeth) to begin with and then finer and finer grades of wet and and dry paper cut into strips and used like those things a barber sharpens a cutthroat razor on (strop).

It works, but is time consuming to get a good edge. This guy is doing the same but using a full loop, the 'sharpener' is how OH uses the round file and the buffing wheel is doing the w&d paper bit!

Chainsaw file. Remembering that a file is not draged backwards and forwards across the metal .It is used from the back of the blade pushing forward towards the cutting edge ONLY.Anything other just leaves the knife blunt still. Also NEVER use a file without a handle ,if it slips ,the tang can go straight into your wrist:eek:
