Hi, my daughter regualry show her section A in lead rein, m&ms, and soon First Ridden. At the moment at home she rides him in a loose ring happy mouth french link which hes lovely in but doesnt carry his head particualry well, at shows she rides in a plain pony egg butt snaffle which i find he resists and doesnt mouth particualry well
Weve recently been lent a loop ring happy mouth french link which he doesnt resist and also carries his head well.
Where would i stand using a happy mouth bit in the show ring were doing bigger unaafiliated shows at the moment but next year were gonna start doing british heritage lead rein and tiny tots first ridden so dont want to keep changimng the bits around.
Any advice on the rules would be great.
Cheers.

Hi, it is fine to use a little double jointed wilkie bit for these classes, I have never seen anyone with a happy mouth one tho. I can't see it being a problem as long as it was the plain coloured mouth piece with metal rings.

I find the wilkies work better to just use them at shows, and school the ponies at home in a normal eggbutt or loose ring double jointed snaffle.

Never used one myself, but have seen quite a few ponies showing in happy mouths. If you think your pony will go better in it, no harm in trying at a show and if you're really unsure you could always just have a quick word with a judge after your class, although I'm sure it'll be fine!

Ok, thankyou, its only unaffiliated bigger shows now, but hoping to take her to do M&Ms lead rein and M&Ms tiny tots first ridden at royal windsor so may aswell get going with the correct equipment now, rather than changing it once weve got going.:)
