Hello- in order to helpmy cob gain condition, I have been feeding her sugar beet in the hope it will help- but she's been loose for a while now and I think that he being loose is probably causing her to lose condition rather than gain it. She gets Alfa A, Hifi Lite, Sugar Beet, Hay, general purpose supplement, salt and oil so I am thinking of changing teh quantities of it all- upping the alfa and reducing Hifi and Sugarbeet. Has anyone had the same experience? What did you do/what do you suggest.

thanks

her GP sup has probiotics in it- maybe I shold just drop the sugar beet- I always used to think it was good for them but I'm not so sure anymore- one of my horses is fine with it- the other isn't. Could I swap all hifi for alfa? Does anyone feed just alfa with GP supplement, oil and salt? I'm planning to give Dengie a bell tomorrow but it's always good to people who have experienced the same issues- thanks for all your help :-)

bran and sugar beet make them loose. careful not to bind them to much as it can lead to colic a simple blend of chaff and a mix will surfice, how old is he breed etc?

I've just tried global herbs diareeze with some good results :) but I too would drop the sugar beet. My boy is also on haylage balancer (which is pink powder with clay) and is blossoming on it!

I used alpha a oil to add condition - he's now on a handful of happy hoof and fast fibre as he is a little too well ;) a very different story to a year ago.

hi there- she's a 14 year old cob mare- I don't feed her mix as she has tied up in the past and on very light work. She's not dropped huge amounts of weight but has been loose for a little while and on my check of her tonight, I just thought she could do with a bit more fat...do you know what I mean.
Vanner- will certainly check out Diareeze- when did you horse start having loose dropping? I think that the cold doesn't help either...

give spillers a ring i found them to be very impartial (esp for feed company)
i dropped sugar beet about 7 years ago and feed happy hoof and pasture mix/ pony nuts or youngstock mix dependant which one is being fed. xx

To be honest my boy has always been loose since i got him a year ago. I've tried various things but since we have had to go onto full haylage (due to hay shortage) he's been worse than ever - put it this way we have had colourful streaks down bum and hocks!!!

Diareeze seems to be magic stuff (((touches wood))) and I have started the fast fibre as apparently more fibre helps.

I found alpha a oil fab and you could replace your alpha a and hifi lite with it.

OK- brilliant- will do- thanks ever so much- you know when you check your horse and your heart sinks? she's not even that thin at all- but I always try and keep her at the perfect weight so it's not like she can lose a load and be correct. Will call a couple of people tomorrow- oh, and off the beet in the meantime...
