Do people think that horses that have been loose jumped or jumped in lunging competitions as youngsters (usually as 3yr olds) are easier to teach to jump under saddle? Or do they jump better when they first start jumping with a rider because they have done it with no rider?
In Ireland and on The Continent, especially Holland and Belgium, in the big sales you regularly see horses jumping 1.20m with a similar spread loose, the bigger they jump the more money they tend to fetch...

I'm not sure interested to follow people more experienced than myself responses! I'd imagine you wouldn't have the initial hesitation that you can have with youngsters just beginning to jump and I'd think they'd be able to find there stride quite well having that experience without the rider but interesting one will follow!

I'd think a lot would be to do with the rider and how balanced they are as well as how athletic the horse is.
My pony couldn't work out how to jump lower jumps and would jump beautifully over higher ones. I loose schooled her a few times and she worked out her striding and balance and really enjoys loose jumping. When I then got back on her, there was a marked improvement.

I would have thought they would be easier to teach as they've been given the opportunity to work it out on their own without having to account for a riders weight as well, but will follow this with interest to see what experienced people say.
