I am going to buy a loose ring french link snaffle, but i heard you should buy these a size bigger. Is this right? My horse is a 5 1/2 inch in an eggbutt snaffle, and the bit i want doesn't come in a 5 3/4. Should i got for the 5 1/2 or the 6 inch?

Go for normal size. A size bigger will "fold" further down in the horses mouth, and encourage it to put its tongue over, and also make it fussy in the mouth.

great thanks

The only reason you should buy a size bigger is so the loose rings can't nip the lips as the bit moves. You don't want a loose ring to be a really snug fit, so I guess it depends on how the 5 1/2'' fits. If the lips are pressed up tight against the eggbut rings I'd go for a 6'' If you've got some room for movement stick with the 5 1/2''

Buy the same size as your horse is wearing now and put bit rings on it to stop it pinching, the size your using will be, i presume, the correct size for your horse and like KatB says if you buy bigger it will then sit differently in his mouth. You dont want tongue over bit problems, iv had issues like that with my pony and its not fun!!
