My dog is about 16 so she is getting on a bit. Recently she has been going to the toilet on the doormat in the kitchen. This has been happening about 1/2 times a week. This morning she was laid on my bed while I was getting ready for work when she suddenly jumped off, squatted and did a wee on my bedroom floor

! She has NEVER done this before. I don't really want to get cross with her as she is old and I wonder if she is finding it hard to 'hold on' when she needs to go. The problem is that she has become very lazy and won't go outside if its raining/very cold (however, she is still more than happy to go out in the rain for a walk and bounds around like a puppy when I get her lead out). She had some problems a few months ago as she was getting poo stuck around her bum and straining- took her to the vets and he did her glands and no probs in that area since)
So the point is, is this an eventuality with an older dog, is she being lazy and any tips?? I live at home now and my mum will start getting pissed off if she keeps having accidents! Help!

My bitch had a similiar problem which started when she was about 10 and she had tablets from the vet to control the problem. I woudl take advice from your vet.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if he would just tell me that it happens when they get older. I will book an appointment for her! I take it the tablets your bitch have work then?

I would have her checked, esp if it has started suddenly, I would rule out a urine infection and also monitor her intake of fluids, esp if she is drinking more than usual, your vets may want to check her over and run a few tests, then u will know for sure, whether to put it down to age related bladder weakness.
