loosing forelock

Inky is loosing his forelock fast, by summer he wont have any left

ive no idea why just think its snapping off. I have invested in some Mega-tek rebuilder but is there anything other i can do to help it grow etc???? Please give me a miracle

False forelocks is not an option its not allowed in mini showing

Has the hair just gone brittle or is he rubbing it for any reason?

No hes not rubbing it it just seems to get thinner and thinner

He is suffering from male pattern baldness.

Can't you get away with somehow sticking some on there for the showing, surely no judge will grab and pull?

Has he got a skin problem underneath, like eczema or sore skin? Maybe just put on some anti-inflammatory cream for a while?

There is no soreness or signs of rubbing at all its just disapearing!!! The problem is that for showing we slick the forelock to the side and tuck it under the side of the halter so if it was false you would see it. ( as in the last photo in the siggy )

Now, you're sure the shetland hasnt been eating it???

Other than that I havent a clue, maybe ask the vet when he's next out?

seriously, it isnt unheard of.

Another thought, you mentioned you slick his forelock back? do you use any product to help hold it at shows? Do you tuck it back at any other time other than shows?

yeah we had this years ago, one of our colts was eating one of our mares tails, i thought some swine had been on our land with scissors initially!

For shows i usually just use water before each class. I never touch it now, not even brush it and its a good job!!!

If it is being eaten there is a product (I'll look up the name) that you can spray onto hair and rugs to prevent excessive mutual grooming and rug ripping.
