Just watching Lorraine Kelly on This Morning....

I can't help but thinking who ever was giving her the lesson should be shot!
Why would they be making her jump in her second lesson?
Never been on a horse and she's 52! Surely she would never have the balance to start jumping day 2 of riding! Am I the only one who thinks it was insane?

I feel bad for Lorraine and glad she was ok!

Defintely! I was thinking the same thing when it happened. After lesson 2 you you are probably still learning the basics of mounting and doing up your girth let alone jumping!! It's awful what happened to her, but cant say I'm at all surprised...

lol true that! You'd think with her money she'd be going to an accredited school not some Gypo "Riding school" down a dinge lane :D

Good god, what were they thinking  I know that's the done thing in some establishments, but we're not talking about a young kid who'll bounce... (no offence to LK, naturally, I'm 25 and I don't bounce any more :p )

I jumped in my 2nd lesson :D As did my mum, who shock horror was in her 50s when she learned   Sure she would have bounced fine, although may have been a bit achey as she used to do her longest run (marathon runner) on the Saturday morning before her lesson

I know you did, but you're one of these infuriating people who just does everything well  Clearly that's a genetic trait

My husband jumped the first time he was on a horse - my boy carted him over some logs and then brought him back, somewhat sheepishly. Husband is a triathlete and was delighted!

Otherwise probably best for people not to jump before they have mastered the basics of control unless they are very athletic with excellent balance and possibly also very lightweight to lessen the impact of a fall.

One of my sharers used to ride there and know the horse..said he was actually very safe so looks to be one of those unfortunate accidents. .

I was jumping in my 2nd lesson.... She may have picked things up very quickly in her first lesson. Did she say how long lessons were? I would expect most people to be more advanced in their second lesson if the lessons were 2 hrs than if the lessons were 1/2 hr.

My second lesson still had me clinging on to the neck strap while walking on the lunge, I was terrified! I was 39, 10 years ago, I'm off the lunge line now :D

Are you still clinging on to your neckstrap? :D

eta, I am, and I'm sure someone posted a pic of Geoff Billington clinging onto his on fb y'day!

The use of the neckstrap is a sign of a very good rider imho :D

The trouble with these charity things is that they have to do everything very quickly - the same thing happened to Ruby Wax on Only Fools on Horses. I'm not wholly surprised that series wasn't done a second time ;)
