Lorries and motorhomes!!

Not true - my parents have a huge motorhome that is on a 7.5t vehicle - any bigger and you have to have an HGV license to use in the UK

I agree with what has been said, if it is built on a 7.5 tonne vehicle it will be a 7.5 tonne lorry and will have the same restrictions as any other 7.5 tonner regardless of what it is classed as.

The seller from the lorry on eBay says it was registered in the say way as an American motorhome and was built from new, not a conversion from say a 7.5t lorry.

So under DVLA rules you can drive up to 12m (39ft) motorhome without weight restriction on a normal (old) car licence

No - to drive for example a Winnebago over here on a UK license you need HGV according to dad when they looked at a bigger one
Edit to say ..... I'm sure it's not worth the risk - I'm sure you'd have fun convincing the police/DVLA it was a motorhome when you have horses in!

a) I think it sounds v dodgy.
b) It is massive - it will be a complete begger to get into small places...like Summerhouse car park when busy etc etc.....

When we were looking at lorries one manufacturer tried to convince us that we could have a lorry over 7.5t and you could register as a motorhome provided that the living was longer than the horse area. I looked at the rules and I don't think that you can get away with this.

Surely if you are carrying horses it has to be registered as a horsebox !!! I would imagine if you were to have an accident or something happens to horses you are carrying your insurance wouldnt cover you?Plus that is way bigger then 7.5tonnes looks like a HGV to me.

As people say, if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is!! ha ha

If you passed your car licence before about February 1997, then you can drive upto 7.5t; it you passed it after this date then you are restricted to driving upto 3.5t (transit van size) unless you take a HGV test. That's it. No matter what kind of vehicle it is.

The advert is talking pants.

There will be a weight limit on this lorry. All vehicles have weight limits, even cars. Please do not be mislead by some-one advertising 'no weight limit'.

Kev from Charlton Horseboxes.
