Lorries with no tilt cab

Hello,

I am looking for some help, I am currently in the market for a new lorry and have seen one that I like but it has no tilt cab, is this a big no no or can it be workable?

Any thoughts and experience greatly appreciated.

It can be workable,
But for some mechanical tasks it might cost you more in labour time.
Best thing to do is get yourself a good mechanic in advance and ask their opinion before you buy a lorry.
Mine is non tilt and it hasn't been a major issue - but has probably cost a little more for works

As ihatework, I checked with my mechanic before we brought our non tilt lorry, and it does cost more in labour/time, but is workable. He did point out though, that if you were to break down on a journey, it's not likely to be as fixable roadside, whereas it may be with a tilt cab. Ours has a hatch in the cab under the seats.

My last truck was non tilt .
Yes labour does cost more but I had it for over ten years and was fine the garage will moan when you take it in and you are more likely to be recovered than road side repaired if you break down .
It would not be a deal breaker for me .

Ours is not a tilt cab and our mechanic hasn't got a problem with that - he inspected it before we bought it.

My last lorry didn't have a tilt cab, but a hatch underneath the seats in the cab and some jobs just had to be done from underneath. Mechanics don't tend to like it, but as others say it is ultimately doable but may well cost more in terms of labour and/or recovery from roadside.

Personally, having a tilt cab was one of my mandatory criteria requirements when I got the current lorry - I've got enough to worry about without having to deal with the extra complications that a non-tilt cab brings, but it all depends on your mechanic's views - I would speak to whoever you're likely to be using and see what they say.

It can be do-able - but do check it has got a hatch that has been put into the base of the cab before the lorry was built up around it. Having just recently seen a non-tilt cab, with no hatch, and no way of finding or changing the fuel filter... Gets a bit worrying about what else has been given a miss on maintenance work if it is not accessible.

And tilt cabs can have their own problems - check for leaking..

ha ha -yes very true. But at least there is still access to be able to fix problems - and to be fair most problems can be rectified if they aren't allowed to sit and fester for 6 months first!

I've only ever had a tilt cab lorry, but my dad has just been working on a non-tilt and it got to be pretty worrying pretty quickly, and quite a bit more difficult to work on. (Cue much muttering and moaning from dad )
