Just wanted some opinions please. I have advertised my lorry on Horsemart, Trade It, Hereford Equestrian website and PreLoved, and in local tack/feed shops. So far I have had zero response, although the ads only went in at the beginning of this week!

I cannot afford an advert in H&H magazine - is it worth doing an online advert only with H&H? I am very keen to sell, but I also realise that the weather is putting people off at the moment

It was suggested that I try E-Bay too, I was put off by the prices but might give that a go if a lot of people say that it is good

Thanks

I just managed to sell mine. It was on horsemart for a bit, but with not much joy.

Sold it in the end with an add in the local feed merchants.

Ebay is really expensive because the category you list it in is not a fixed price (like a car), you have to pay the normal percentage of sale price at the end.

I advertised mine on e-bay, it has a nationwide audience! Keep an eye out for free listing days, if you don't want to pay huge seller fees you can always figure them into your reserve and if it doesn't sell you've had some cheap/free advertising. Put your quota of free photos up and say you'll email more to anyone wants them. And give a contact number so any "watchers" can contact you, even when the auction has ended....

TBH Mainpower my lorry is the cheaper end of the market so I doubt people would want to travel that far to see it?

An online H&H advert is only £20 which was why I was thinking that might be an option

We sold ours through Horsemart within 2 weeks. it may be it is not the best time of year to sell to be honest (we sold ours beginning of the spring) and also may depend on whether you have priced it right. When we were looking for a newer model we found the asking prices different hugely and some were way way over-priced!

I would double check other wagons of similar age/condition to yours to make sure you have priced it competitively.

for example, we saw N reg wagons ranging from £8000 up to £22,000 and more. Obviously some were nicer than others but it was pretty easy to establish where people had been rather optimistic about what theirs was worth! There weere plenty of newer wagons for less and in better condition.

I do think you have to do your homework and get the price right and also maybe make sure your ad is showing off the best bits. Too many ads show the wagon exterior and the 'great' living but, if you go see them, the horse areas can be pretty crap to be honest. If yours has a really good horse area/partitions etc then highlight that and put pics! After all the horsebox is supposed to be about the horse, not what gadgets the wagon has or how plush the seats are!

What age/price are you trying to sell? I sold ours before Christmas despite it being a bad time of year to sell. She went to the first person to view, I advertised on Horsedeals, horsemart, adtrader and local RC website - the lady who bought her saw ad on RC website. Lorry is an old (B reg) Bedford, sold for almost asking price (£3000)
TBH I had a few enquiries through each of the other avenues but mostly people were taking the p*ss a bit tbh, emails saying things like 'would you accept £1000 for cash' or simply 'where is lorry?' (literally, that was the entire content of the email.
I'd go with word of mouth, local RCs, tach shops etc. Do you get out and about in your lorry quite a bit? Pop a sign in window? I had three people lined up to view after the one that bought, all from local RC website who had seen me at events so knew lorry got us to where we wanted to be which is really all you can ask from a oldie.
Also wording of ad and pics help a lot I think.

Wrong time of year, wrong type of weather - would you want to go and try a lorry on the roads at the moment?!! Would save your money and re advertise early spring when people are looking forward to summer activities....Then would go again with Horsemart as we have sold 2 cheaper lorries very quickly through their website.
Good luck!

Actually I think being on the cheaper end of the market might help in terms of ebay - people looking for a bargain, who don't have much to spend, will IMO be more prepared to travel to get something decent within budget.

I would suggest ebay because if it doesn't sell you don't pay too much [at least for cars, not positive about lorries] and if it does sell then its definitely sold, you don't have to faff about with viewings and all of that.

See I had to sell mine as had bought replacement as perfect lorry came up for sale from friend on yard and was too good opportunity to miss! Also with older lorry a 12 month plating is a huge selling point, and I didn't want mine to run down to 9,8,7 months before selling it! Its not impossible to sell, mine went really quickly in the end.

Yeah it wouldnt bother me at all TBH, once I have decided I am looking then I am looking

But I realise I am unusual in that respect

OK - more photos this weekend, of the inside, drop the price a bit (it is not unrealistically priced at the moment, but I need it gone quick!), put it on E-Bay, PC website and RC website....

Thanks everyone this is really helpful

Actually where in the country are you? Know one of the people who was too late to get mine is still looking - what age/model/price/size are you selling?

If you need to sell it quickly and still zero response from the ads you've placed then I'd consider H&H. How much is it for an ad to appear on the magazine as well as online?

I agree with you that if people are looking they're looking.
When we sold ours (v.v.v. difficult to sell as lorry was in Italy and it was a right-hand drive), we advertised it in early spring and sold it at the beginning of winter!! So really, time of year matters only relatively.

Hmm, personally I think for that age of vehicle it is quite dear BUT I am comparing to 7.5Ts I guess. We sold our 7.5T B reg for just under £2500 (it did have some rust etc and we were realistic). However, I am aware 3.5Ts are in demand so people are paying a little more for them.

Def get some more pics on though - when you're able to put 6 pics on you may as well put them on!

Its a crazy price FB, something like £240 odd

I just cant justify that for a lorry which I will probably get £3k maximum for

I agree!! It would be much better to knock $240 off the asking price.

GH, as it is down as a one horse does it only come up on the one horse section of horsemart? is it stalled for 2? I am of course thinking of people with ponies here but it might not come up to those looking.

Have you tried pre-loved (free to register and advertise). I have VW LT50 on a M plate which I had advertised before christmas at a much lower price than you have got yours on for. Response was slow to start but so many time wasters gave up in the end and have kept it.

Thats a good point Ester, thanks

Yep it is definitely stalled for 2 - some friends had one and travelled two 16.2hh horses in it, so the size is not a problem just the payload - they were well overweight

I will change it on Horsemart, thanks again

Yes, my OP said it was on Preloved Merry44
smile.gif
Yeah I think a lot of people look at the age and say it is over priced, but it is in brilliant condition and very well maintained so it runs/looks much younger - it is well worth the price, my lorry mechanic told me not to accept any less than £3500 for it but I'm willing to go lower than that

Yeah as I said to Merry44 a lot of people have tried to tell me that - but it has no rust, a new floor put in, drives brilliantly etc so I just need to find someone who can look past the age at the actual vehicle to see what they get for their money

OK, I have taken advice from my personal financial advisor
tongue.gif
Price is being dropped to £3,300 but the adverts wont be updated until tomorrow as I want to do the photos at the same time
